Second to Rome????

If you could pick one other spot in Italy to visit -- what would it be and why?

OH Chandler,

How could you ask us to narrow it down to one other?

It's hard to say, I don't know if I would go back to a place I've been or pick somewhere I haven't seen yet.

Are you asking because you are trying to decide where else to go?

Have you been to Italy before?

Whats are your interests? Museums? countryside?

I love Spoleto, Bologna and Verona. But Sicily should not be overlooked.

After Rome we are going to Capri and Positano. I haven't been for about ten years or more, and that last time was with my parents and my sister. But I remember them being so romantic, so that is why my husband and I are going in the spring, to celebrate our 5 year anniversary.

If I could leave Rome and go anywhere in Italy for a few days...hmmm.

Lucca for the walk around the wall.

Venice for the feel of the air.

Montepulciano for the light.

Mantua for the pumpkin ravioli.

Florence for the architecture.

Sicily for the oranges.

Erice for the fog.

Ravello for the wind off the ocean.

Lake Como for the lilacs in May.

Verona for the bread.

Nemi for the strawberries and mushrooms.

Castel Gandolpho for the cheap appley white wine.

Ferrara for the candy.

Montefalco for risotto.

Siena for the color of the streets.

Calabria for the shoes.

on

and on and on. D.

Oh, what great cities!! Yes, I've been to Italy 5 years ago.....to Rome, Florence (4 hours), and Siena. We are going for our 20th anniversary and bringing our three teenage children. We're doing Rome for 4 days and renting a car. Wondering what to do for the other 4 days we have?????? What city would be great????

Chandler,

Love Orvieto as an overnight side car trip from Rome.

Hotel Duomo was family-owned; a great place and right next to the Duomo.

Why don't you go back to Firenze (Florence) ?

You only spenr 4 hours there 5 years ago, so you probably didn't get to see it all.

And your teenage kids won't be bored!

Also Pompei is nice.. Vesuvius.. but it's more like a two day trip.

Thanks for the suggestions. I know we could easily spend a month in Italy and still not scratch the surface.
