Affordable lodging near Spanish steps

We will be in Rome (first trip) for 5 nights mid October and would like to stay near the Spanish steps but everything seems to be quite pricey. Any suggestions? We understand that this is a good central safe location. but would entertain other suggestions of areas to stay.

Here is a list of hotels in the historical centre & a rough guide of the prices charged....on this site the hotels cant be booked more than 28 days in advance. However, if a price stands out as appealing have a look on tripadvisor hotel reviews to see if any TA members have experienced the property. Alot of these are a metro stop away from Spanish Steps or a short walk...

Hope it helps as a starting point...

Why not stay in another part of town where your money will go further? Rome is a safe city, you don't need to be near the Spanish Steps to be in a "good area." Better to stay at a great hotel near Termini than a dump for the same price near the Spanish Steps. Plus the Steps aren't as central as the Pantheon or Piazza Navona. Look at Trastevere, Roman Forum and Termini areas.

I found a wonderful deal for the Hotel Concordia! (180 Euros!) And since you are going in October - you might find better deals.

We are going in early September and their price just can't be beat and TA viewers have given it a great rating ...

Good luck! Hunting for hotels can be challenging!

On the TA review section it also has a rough price next to the name so can be another place to look....have a look at the top 30 for example some of the hotels have great prices.

Luvthebeach - We are going to Rome in September and are staying at a small B and B called All' Obelisco - right by the Spanish Steps across from the very expensive Hotel Hassler. I have had several emails with the owner, Giancarlo and he has been so helpful. It has very good reviews on TA and surprised more people haven't written about it. I originally found it through a booking service but you can email Giancarlo directly - obelisk.beb@libero.it

Our rate in September is 140 Euro which I thought was excellent.

Google the name for their website for pictures - although it is in Italian (working on the english version). Good luck - Denise

I have been communicating with Giancarlo (the owner of the B and B) and he has been most helpful in any of my questions. We are really looking forward to our stay at the All' Obelisco B and B in September.

We too are staying at All'obelisco in September. When are you staying there Denise? We'll be there Sept. 20-23. Giancarlo has been very helpful and we too are so looking forward to staying there. Our price was also 140 euros with a 10% discount with cash payment. The pictures look nice and this is a nice area to stay in.
