Food and drink prices

Keep hearing how expensive everything is in Rome. Just how expensive is it and has anyone come across any reasonably priced places to eat and drink?

We were there this time last week :( and found that as long as we avoided anywhere near attractions to eat and just wandered a couple of streets away that it wasn't really anymore expensive than the uk.. We had a fantastic time and found the transport system really reasonable and well run although it was pleasant and not too far to walk either.

Have a great time you'll love it we can't wait to go back:)

There are, quite literally, thousands of places selling food and drink at reasonable prices. But don't expect to find one in Piazza della Rotonda with a view of the Pantheon.

Get a block or two away from any major tourist attraction, and wander. All the restaurants have their menus outside, with prices.

Wandering is definitely your friend, especially away form the main attractions. We found most places did post menus so you could have a clue as to the food and the prices before sitting. Don't be afraid to share dishes either if you are so inclined. Another tip if you like wine with your dinner is to just order the house wine, not a bottle. We found most house wines to be pretty good and quite a bit less than a bottle of wine. It was still a liter, just in a carafe instead of a bottle.
