August heat in Italy

Going in August with 2 kids, how do I pack? I'v heard it is very hot and humid. We will be moving around a lot so I want to pack light. Do I need to pack any sweaters?

Also, since August is vacation time for Italians, are the line ups not so bad?

Thank you

We are always there in August. Humidity is more trouble to me than the heat. I have a reversable long "broomstick" style skirt. Tee shirts, one long sleeve blouse, and a pair of kakki style pants make up my main wardrobe. I do have a very light weight sweater i take as it can be cool in the evenings up the mountains. I've not worn it in Rome however.

I always bring a light-weight sweater with me in the summer, even to Rome. Even on a hot day, it can cool down a lot at night.
