Which area to stay???

Have booked flights and due to stay in Rome from the 3rd March for 6 nights, what is the best area to stay in the city? we are looking at spending around 100 euros a night for the two of us and would like breakfast included if possible Would like to be able to walk to most of the main historical sites, and a safe area for two women to walk to bars and restaurants in the evening too.

Thank you

All of central Rome is safe: there are many people on the streets until late at night, so physical attack is very unlikely. However, as with anywhere that tourists gather, be alert for pickpockets.

The most popular area for tourists is around Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. Have a look at www.venere.com where you can sort by location and price.

There are hundreds - maybe thousands - of bars and restaurants in central Rome. You will not have the slightest problem in finding them, no matter where you stay.

Hi,

I went to Rome July this year and stayed at Hotel Perugia. Its in a tiny street which is nice and quiet, but its round the corner to the Colosseum. It was cheap as well for how central it is, we paid 75 euros per night, however it is very basic, so it depends on if you want to go cheap and basic! I didn't spend loads of time in the hotel as there is so much to do so its a good base! And its very close to everything!

The historic centre around Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, or Trastevere are good locations.

Rome’s historic centre around the Pantheon or Piazza Navona are a maze of narrow streets and alleys dating from the Middle Ages. Ancient Rome is magical at night when the day trippers leave.

Trastevere, a neighborhood on the west bank of the Tiber is also a colourful and intriguing area - Formerly a working-class district, it has been gentrified and has many excellent restaurants.

We stayed in rome in oct at these apartments - tripadvisor.com/…REVIEWS

and highly recommend. Great quiet neighbourhood in the heart of historial rome - walking distance to Colosseum and a metro station and lots of neighbourhood shops, restaurants and bars.

If you are staying 6 nights, an apartment provides a bit of extra space and facilities for occasional eating in.

Ciao MG100surrey,

The Piazza Navona-Pantheon is really the most magical and convenient area!

You might check some of the Piazza Navona B&B accommodations.

Agree with others that Pantheon, Piazza Navona is the best area--and you will be perfectly safe.

I wouldn't make breakfast a dealbreaker--there are so many great cafes all over that area where you can sit and have an espresso. It certainly won't be like an English breakfast if you do get it--it will more likely be juice, coffee, bread. Sometimes there will be cold cuts or yogurt.

The hotel Nizza is located in Castro Pretorio (north-Est), close to the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, the museo nazionale romano and the Parco Traiano! The prices are affordable, nice quarter. http://www.hotel-rome-nizza.com/ . The hotel Beldes is great. It's in Prati area (north-west of Rome), near the Vatican, villa Borghese, the Basilica di Santa Maria del popolo... There are lots of sights & restaurants ! It's safe and quiet. http://beldeshotelrome.com/.

The http://www.hotelveronaroma.com/ hotel next to the basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore benefits of a great location, north of the Parco di Traiano. You can walk to the major sites like the colosseo, circo massimo and others. You have breakfast included from 77euros per night! The area is also very safe at night. You won't have any problems walking back to your hotel at night.
