Underground section and 3rd Level of Colosseum

...are supposed to be opening back up to the public in the coming week! Reservations are required, as it requires touring with an Archaeologist. I believe this option should be back up on some booking sites online or by phone at +39. 06. 7740091.

does this mean you need to pay for a tour to see the bottom level of the colleseum? does the Roma Pass cover entrance to all parts of collesum?

You must book and pay for a tour. The romapass will gain you entry to the site but does not cover the tour.

So, if I call that number to reserve, do I give them my credit card number or do I just make the reservation, get a confirmation number and then pay when I arrive for the tour? And, is the place to meet for the tour clear at the Colosseum?

Thanks

People, please don't call that number: It's not a reservation number but the office of Rossella Rea, the person responsible for archeology at the Colosseum:

http://archeoroma.beniculturali.it/node/223

When tickets/reservations become available, the information will be posted here

060608.it/en/…colosseo-anfiteatro-flavio.html

and the number to call will be the Pierreci booking number +39 06 39967700.

The Colosseum office themselves referred me to that phone number! (And actually it's also on some websites) Bizarre.

I just called them to make reservations for July 31 and they said that they would be closing in June 30. Is this true or is it just that they will no longer be doing tours after June 30?

The Colosseum will not be closing, and the underground tours will be continuing until October 30. Maybe the person you spoke to was misinformed; maybe they aren't taking bookings yet for July.
