Why not get the Leonardo Express train into the main train station Roma Termini and then a cab outside to the Spanish Steps area.

It is about 26 km from the airport to the station and about 4km or so to around the Spanish Steps.

We caught the Leonardo di Vinci Express in and out of Rome. There are good directions to the platform but some walking involved with the luggage. We had rolling luggage...no problem.

The leonardo express for 4 adults will cost you more than a taxi you can just grab at the airport for a flat rate of 40 euros total.

In case you're having any difficulty finding them - now that they've been deleted from the "To and From FCO Airport" entry in the Rome Top Questions list - details of the fixed fares that currently apply on journeys to and from that airport can be seen here....

Warning: above all don't take into any account the Leonardo Express!

4 adults taking the Leonardo Express would pay 60 euros... just to get to Termini, better said, to a secondary platform of Termini 500 metres far from the core of the station! Don't get ripped off, please!

A taxi would cost 40 euros, fixed fare, to any spot in the centre (Spanish steps included, of course).

"4 adults taking the Leonardo Express would pay 60 euros". So there has been another price increase of the Leonardo Express ticket?

No, it's still 14 Euro (15 Euro in the other direction if you buy the ticket at the special booth near the track), but I suspect that it will go up again if and when the taxi-rate increase first announced 14 months ago goes through.

Thanks everyone for the info. Sounds like a taxi is the best and simplest route for four people with one large bag each. Assume we would need a mini van for us to fit Will that be easy to get or do we need to reserve?

No need to reserve. The dispatcher at the taxi rank will get you a maxi taxi.

Sounds like the OP got their info, so hopefully ok to hijack the thread.

How about 6 people? Are there taxis from FCO that can take this large amount?

Otherwise we'll probably take a shuttle bus.
