Tuscany-wine tastings

We are going to be in Tuscany in July for 4 nights. We are driving from Florence to just South of Siena where we will be staying and want to stop in to wineries for tastings. Would you recommend that we schedule appointments as we head south through the Chianti region or can we be spontaneous? Any recommendations for our time in Tuscany would be appreciated.

All over Italy, all wineries are willing to have visitors. But since most of them are small, they do not have tasting rooms that have regular opening hours and personnel. It is always a good idea to call a day ahead and arrange a visit.

There is also the Tuscan wine school in Siena that holds regular tuscan wine tastings, they are highly recommended (not only by me).

We went to Torciano ( http://www.torciano.com/USA/winery/ ) and found it educational, entertaining and enjoyable.
