One category I forgot to include in my trip report was 'Top Tips'.
Two of the more little known tips are:
1)Aim to visit St Peters Basilica AFTER either your Scavi Tour or visiting the Vatican Museum. The Scavi Tour ends directly within the Basilica and when you have finished in the Museums there is direct access into St Peters. On both accounts this avoids any queue in St Peters Square and from the Museum it is a heck of a short cut back.
2)Visit the Roman Forums on a Sunday. This is because the police close the major road that runs from the Colloseum, past the Forums through to the Emmanuelle Monument. Not only does it make it wonderfully pedestrian friendly with lots of space, (and no cobbles, bliss), but there is also barely any noticeable traffic noise, which greatly enhances the experience.
