Is the Via Appia Antica shady?

We keep debating whether to rent bicycles and ride on a Sunday at the end of August, or whether the temperatures will just be too high for us to enjoy this activity. If we rented at the tomb of cecilia metella, would we have a shady ride by going either north or south? If so, which one is shadier?

No. There is not much shade to be found along the street. I would go very early in the morning. It's a really fun thing to do --- but hot in afternoon!

This is how the area has looked during our visits - some photos from near the tomb amongst them....

Plenty of shade, between the bits where there wasn't any - and very pleasant, on foot at least!

Try Youtube for lots of video....
