Scavi tour -- too early to reserve for next May?

We're planning on being in Rome at the end of May 2012, which is actually not all that far off! Is it too early to try to get spots on a Scavi tour at the Vatican? If so, does anyone know how far out we should apply? Thanks, everyone, for your help!

Much too early. I wouldn't apply before the end of January, at the earliest.

I applied for an April Scavi tour in November last year and got a response within a few hours. You can try before then, but I wouldn't wait any longer than December.

Worst they can say is "no. too early", so why not send in your request now?

We have a Scavi tour for this Friday, Sept. 9. I went through my local Bishop who sent a letter by fax to the Vatican with our info, email address, etc. We did this several months ago and rec'd a response withiin a couple of days. It's never too early. I would do it now.
