Regionale train ticket Rome-Siena

If we are at a self-serve ticket kiosk in Roma Termini and want to purchase tickets, would anyone know:

1) Must we buy separate tickets for each leg of the journey: Rome-Chiusi and then Chiusi-Siena? Or is it all done on one ticket?

2) For child discounts ( there are no Familia fares on Regionale trains?) is a 12 year old eligible, or must the child be UNDER age 12?

Consider taking the bus instead; it doesn't require a change and takes you up into the town, while the train station is below it. www.sena.it

Children *under* 12 get Trenitalia discounts, also on Regionale trains.

The LAST day of the 50% discount for children is the child's 12th birthday. The next day, the discount disappears forever.

Similarly, the LAST day that toddlers travel FREE on Trenitalia trains (without a ticket and without a guaranteed seat) is their 4th birthday. The next day, they qualify for the 50% discount.

From Rome to Siena on the regionale trains, I believe that you would be given ONE ticket for the entire journey (even though you must change trains at Chiusi Scalo). This is true whether you purchase the ticket from an electronic kiosk OR from a manned agent window at the train station.

There are no "familia" and no "MINI" fares on the regionale trains. Only the children's discount and the "freebie" for toddlers under 4.

BTW, having ONE ticket actually costs slightly LESS than separate tickets for each leg of the trip.

Trains from FCO airport go to Rome. For the options, go to www.trenitalia.com and look for trains from Fiumicino Aeroporto to Siena. Use a travel date before 8 June, as times after then are not yet posted.

From Fiumicino to Siena you have to change twice (the first time in Rome, and the second time in Chiusi or eventually in Grosseto). Taking the train from Fiumicino to Roma Tiburtina and changing there to Chiusi is much cheaper than changing in Roma Termini (23.95 versus 40.80).

Changing in Roma Ostiense, or in Roma Trastevere, then taking a train to Grosseto, costs 26.35 euros.
