Where to stay in Rom

I am going to Rome in October and want to know the best place to stay with the best location to walk to attractions. I would like hotels or B and B's.

The most central area is around Piazza Navona and the Pantheon.

I actually just recently wrote something on this topic, It's a break-down of the different areas of Rome more commonly stayed in by visitors to Rome and their various pluses/minuses as well as tips for each area AND some info regarding accommodation types:

What is your budget? That will help determine what area you can stay in. Also, there is no one area of Rome that will get you close to all the sites. The sites are spread out over the city so while you will be close to some you won't be close to others.
