customs?layover?

I'm looking at a flight returning home from a Rome and Venice trip. Would a 1 hour 15 minute layover in zurich be enough time? Do we have to go through customs there if our final destination is in the US?

You will go through customs in the your first US destination and in your case, it will be Chicago. In Zurich you will most likely go through a passport and security check again (You will not be collecting your baggage and rechecking it).

Thanks. Do you think 1 hour 15 minutes is enough?

Customs is not the problem since it will be an international flight to the States it will be a full security check. In the UK you are advised to allow 2 hours for check and boarding. Make sure your luggage is booked through to Chicago at Rome/Venice.

Yes, you should be fine. Your luggage will automatically be checked through, no issue.
