Rome Taxi

A coworker told me she was picked-up by a fake taxi and charge an extraordinary amount for a short ride. Any tips on identifying real taxis and knowing how much you should be charged. Thanks for your help.

Genuine Rome taxis have a taxi sign on the roof and the Rome coat of arms (SPQR) on the door. You are charged according to what is on the meter, plus extras for luggage. See the Top Question "Taxis in Rome" at top right of this page.

If you arrive at FCO airport and people ask you if you want a taxi, ignore them. Go to the clearly marked taxi stand. From there to anywhere inside the walls of Rome is a fixed price of €48 including your luggage, no need to tip.

Other trips are as Nick says.
