Ferry booking Naples to Palermo, how and who?

We are traveling to Italy in September 2013 and are looking to travel overnight ferry from Naples to Palermo. There will be 9 of us, 6 adults and 3 children. We will have 2 cars, which also need to make the trip.

How can we pre book this and through who?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ferry Naples to Palermo www.gnv.it/en.html

Should you be travelling in rental vehicles, check that you are allowed to take the vehicles on ferries.

You will require an International Driving Permit for Italy.

Thank you Nurioopta!

We are leasing cars, they can be taken on the ferry.

Good tip for international driving permits!

Two companies run the overnight ferry service between Naples and Palermo, SNAV and Tirrenia.

A family of 4 can book a quad cabin, which has four bunks (or berths). That works out perfectly. Choose either Tirrenia or SNAV. On board, you can choose betweeen the restaurant or the cafeteria. Prices are not hugely different, but the service in the restaurant is much better.

At this time of year, ferries typically depart Naples at 20.00 and arrive in Palermo at 8.00, or depart Naples at 20.15 and arrive in Palermo at 6.30.
