You may have difficulty at this time of year - it is high season and, with respect, you're leaving it a little late to find budget rentals as they're the first to go.

Use the searches recommended. You could also use www.venere.com - this is hotels as well but you may find something that suits your family.

As for things to do, there are a plethora of sights to see - many are free. One of the best things to do in Rome is just walk around and soak it all in. How old are your children and your baby? If your baby needs a stroller, bear in mind the historic streets of Rome are cobblestones which can be a little jarring on strollers (and feet!).

I found our apartment on vrbo.com. We leave in four weeks!! It is in Trastevere and looks lovely, good reviews and excellent communication with owner. It appears to be booked throughout June but its property #138130. Good luck! It took me quite a few inquiries before I found something available.
