Back to back Mondays in Rome

Our schedule just worked out that we are in Rome with free time two Mondays -- September 30 then again October 7. We are newbies so we are not sure what to see/do on Mondays since many sights are closed. Are there markets open on Mondays, specialty shops, or those out of the way places that locals frequent that most tourists don't ever visit? We have found, with help from TA experts, special places in Paris, London, and Istanbul off the beaten path. We can exchange hidden treasures in those cities for hidden gems in Rome if anyone is interested.

Many sites are open on Mondays including the Vatican museums and the colosseum. It's mostly galleries and museums that are closed. I would plan Mondays around the sites that are open and not worry too much about it. You won't find shops or restaurants closed on Mondays, it's a normal work day.

Here's a helpful blog on the topic pf Rome Mondays: buzzinrome.com/2011/… It's a little dated (2011) but shows there's still plenty to see and do.
