Beach holiday - flying into Rome

Hi

I've booked to take the family to Rome next summer, but we would like some beach time too. Where are the nice resorts, with decent beaches, not a million miles away from Rome. Am happy to get the train, or hire a car to get there - would like to keep down costs, so not the most expensive resorts please!

If you want to stay within Rome, then... what about Ostia? It's the city seaside neighbourhod and has nice beaches; you can easily reach it with the Roma-Lido light railway... ordinary bus-tram-Metro tickets will do (as this short line runs within the city's boundaries and is managed by ATAC).

Otherwise, there are some other places near Rome that have good beaches - such as Fregene, Santa Marinella, Ladispoli, Torvaianica, Santa Severa, Sperlonga, Sabaudia... just to name a few.

Hi

Ostia is an easy trip from Rome. If you get off the train at Ostia Stella Pollare you walk straight ahead out of the station, go to the right then down a street to the left (supermarket on LH corner} - only about 5-7 min walk.

Also, on the same train don't miss out on the ancient site of Ostia Antica, 3 stops before Ostia Stella Pollare (closed Mondays. Bigger than Pompeii - Google it}

We are in Lido di Ostia at the moment, as described very easy to get to from Rome.We are staying in Hotel La Caravella right overlooking the gorgeous blue sea.The weather today has been a warm 23 degrees.Eating out places galore and very high quality.We are using Ostia as a base for sightseeing Rome we have been in three times so far and the weekly ticket that covers metro bus and train is 24 euro.Today we had a change and ate lunch at one of the many beach bars then spent a few hours swimming and sunbathing..it really is a great way to unwind before the next journey back to the history of Rome. Ostia Antica is two stops up from here and we went yesterday..Spectacular!A must see for anyone visiting Rome.10 euro entrance there five hours and still didnt see it all.Taxi from airport is 35 euro to Lido di Ostia.
