Where to go from Rome for 3 days before travelling to Paris

Leaving Rome on the 27th December wanting to go somewhere where there will be snow & stay for 3 days.

To leave the snow destination on the 30th to be in Paris on the 30th or the 31st.

Does anyone have any suggestions where would be nice to go that is achievable in this short space of time ?

Travel by plane or Train ?

Regards

Sue

You could take the train Rome to Aosta via Turin www.trenitalia.com Click on the UK flag for train times

Bus Aosta to Courmayeur www.savda.it/orari_tariffe.htm

Flights Turin to Paris www.airfrance.com purchase a return air ticket for best value on Air France

www.lovecourmayeur.com/en

As to experiencing snow, it depends on the weather conditions.

I would suggest taking advantage of the TGV network.

You could take the train to Turin. From there trains go through the Frejus tunnel into France, and there are snow resorts all along the way - the ones on the French side are likely more snow sure early season. On the Italian side you can get off the train at Oulx for Sauze d'Oulx/Sestriere - linked into the large Milky Way ski area.

Alternatively continue all the way to Chambery. A little way by train from Chambery is Moutiers, from which there are buses to a number of high altitude ski areas which will be absolutely snow sure in December. The highest is val Thorens, but it is not especially pretty and is all above the tree line. It will have snow.

The advantage of Moutiers is that there are direct TGV trains to Paris in season taking 4 1/2 hours, though they sell out.

You do not have to go all the way up the mountains. You can stay in Brides les Bains (close to Moutiers) and there is a gondola up to the snow.
