One day in Rome with 3 kids, aged 7,5 and 2

We have one day mid-July in Rome with our three boys aged 7,5 and 2. Any suggestions to what we could do without bringing them to their knees?? Needs to be more about having a fun, interesting day at their level rather than at ours. That way we will all have a good time! thanks

Perhaps spend the day in the wonderful gardens around Villa Borghese? There are walkways and trails, a zoo (admission charged), a lake with paddleboats, you could rent a multi-person bike -- www.ascolbike.com/english-site/home-ing.html -- and tour about. There's a terrific view of Rome from the Pincio, overlooking Piazza del Popolo, just down the steps. If the kids can handle a short visit, the beautiful church of Santa Maria del Popolo is definitely worth a visit and contains several Caravaggios. Nearby the church is a small museum (admission charged) about Leonardo Da Vinci's inventions which the kids might like. At the center of the piazza is a great Egyptian obelisk and lion fountains. So, they could still get a little taste of Rome!

The above suggestion is particularly apt if the tourist sites are very hot and crowded, which they can be. They might also like to see things like: fineartamerica.com/featured/equestrain-statu…
