Friday evening

Im going to Rome at the beginning of March Friday to Monday. Unfortunately we are arriving late Friday afternoon so only have a short time to visit everywhere we want to go. Does anyone know if any of the sites are open on a Friday evening so we can at least get some site seeing in when we arrive? Also can anyone recommend somewhere good to eat we are staying opposite the vatican?

Almost every church and museum closes at 7 pm but rome is an open air museum so you can walk around and enjoy the city at any time of the day and night. Trevi fountain, colosseum from outside, pantheon from outside, Spanish steps, piazza Navona, all public places you can enjoy without any ticket or closing time.

That's great advise! I arrive for the first time next Thursday (9 sleeps!), I'm looking forward to the evenings as much as the day time.

All the open air sites like the Spanish Steps and Trevi fountain will be open. You can also walk by the colosseum and forum and view them. Rome is wonderful at night with the monuments lit up. Just stroll through the city to get a feel for it. You'll come across many wonderful sites.
