Fiumicino to Ciampino 4.25 hr

Is 4 hr 15 min enough to pass immigration, move from Fiumicino to Ciampino and border the plane? Thanks.

I think so, but it's actually impossible to say how long it will take you to get out of Fiumicino airport, it depends on how long the lines are at immigration and how long it takes for your baggage to be delivered, which in turn may depend on time of arrival (and day of the week). I don't think I have ever waited more than about 20 mins for that, but someone on here recently said it once took them 1 1/2 hrs.

As there are no trains or buses (there used to be, run by Schiaffini:http://www.schiaffini.com/ - but this now leads to ATRAL website) that go directly between the 2 airports, unless you take a taxi, you have to go into Rome from FCO to transfer to CIA. The fastest way from FCO is Leonardo Express to Termini (30 mins), which is also where shuttle buses depart from for CIA (at least 30 mins, e.g. sitbusshuttle.com/pdf/ORARI_ROME_TO_CIAMPINO… - there is also Terravision http://www.terravision.eu/rome_ciampino.html - and ATRAL, which goes from Ciampini railway station and Anagnina metro station: http://www.atral-lazio.com/). This will add up to more than 1 hr as you also have to add the time for connections and walking to and from station and buses.

You then have to check-in (or drop off bags, unless only travelling with hand luggage) at CIA and go through security checks before boarding the plane (assuming that this is within Schengen so no more passport controls - if not, you have that as well); so you need to arrive at CIA at least 1 hr before the flight..

Depending on what time you arrive and what exact timetable you have worked out, that might add up to 4h15 - or it might not. I can only suggest you work out what your Plan B will be if you don't make it - which I always do anyway now, if taking a low-cost (and some other high-risk) flights. For example, if you don't get out of FCO within 2 hrs (maybe even 1h30), you would know you must take a taxi, which would normally take about 1 hr and cost €50: adr.it/web/aeroporti-di-roma-en-/pax-fco-taxi

Good luck!

Thank you very much. That is very helpful information. I only have a carry-on backpack. But it looks the time is very tight.
