Trip Report - March 27th to March 31st

Thursday March 27, 2014

Arrived at FCO airport at 2 pm with luggage and took the Schiaffini bus for 5 euros to Termini Station and arrived at hotel Piemonte at 5 pm due to heavy traffic. After checking in we went out right away and we

Went to the Spanish Steps taking the Metro to Spagna. From there we then went to the Pantheon, and from there we then went to the Area Sacra. We wanted Pantheon first but the Spanish Steps was right by the stop.

Afterwards we went to the Victor Emmanuel Monument and then to the Fontana di Trevi.

People try to con you for money all the time by either trying to take a picture of you or having you stand next to the fake Roman Soldiers.

After the Fontana di Trevi we Ate at San Silvestro which was absolutely disgusting. But wife was starving and this ruined my taste buds. Being disappointed with the food we called it a night.

Friday March 28th.

We woke up and Ate breakfast at hotel and then we went to Circo Massimo.

Afterwards went for the guided underground Coloseum Tour which was splendid. We then Went to the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, Julius Caesar Forum, Augustus Forum and Trajan's Forum. I was finally satisfied to see these historic points.

Went to Angelinodifiori for Gelato and then food. It was better than I thought it would be. Afterwards we back to the Termini station as our hotel was a 5 minute walk from it and we checked the times for the trains leaving Rome for Naples as we were going to see Pompeii the next day.

Saturday March 29th

Woke up and took the high speed train Frecciarossa to Napoli Centrale at 7:35. Took the Circumvesuviana train to Pompei Scavi. Was in the ruins by 9:45. We ate at the cafe and had a pizza that looked similar to what I would have in America which was a Margarita pizza. We continued on the ruins and We stayed till 3:45 and took train to Sorrento and ate at la Scogliera restaurant leonelli and then we got Ferry to Capri for evening returning for next day to Rome. While at Capri we stayed the night at the Capri Wine Hotel which was different and a bed and breakfast.

Next morning did the Laser Capri tour around the island and also went inside the Blue Grotto which was awesome.

Took the hydrofoil back to Sorrento and then the Circumvesuviana to Napoli Girabaldi and then took the tretitalia unreserved train to Roma Termini station. Had a night cap at U Guiliani.

Monday March 31st - head home

We liked Rome but we also wanted to get other places as well just in case it took a while to get back. We were glad we got to Pompeii and down to Capri and thus the next time we could do the things that are not touristy in Rome but also maybe take day trips to Florence and maybe stay in Venice as well.

Did you go all the way to Rome from Texas just for four days? Or are you continuing your travels elsewhere in Europe?

What a bummer that after all your extensive research you ended up at a total dud restaurant like San Silvestro. The reviews for this place are beyond belief.

Good to know everything else went well.

Yeah, I think we were just wasted and didn't have the energy to look for something good because our itinerary was too packed. We wanted to do the Roman Food tour actually but they were already booked and when that happened, I had no idea of where to go from that point as it was already passed 8:30.
