child rates on trains

Hi there

from what I understand we would qualify for 50% discount for our two children (aged 8 and 7) when using trains in Italy. Trying to decide whether to use trains or taxi/transfer - so want to know if we will save a significant amount of money....(bearing in mind that we have to multiply our Rands by 15 to get 1 Euro!!) We will need to get from FCO to our hotel in Rome - then the following day from the hotel to Civitavecchia port to catch our cruise - and the same thing a week later. I am almost certain that we will take the train to the cruise - but wondering if it's worth paying the extra for the convenience of a taxi between the airport and hotel (Holiday Inn Express - Rome San Giovanni) thank you!!

The fixed price of a taxi to Rome is € 48

With Leonardo Express, your cost will be € 28 for all of you (to Rome Termini)

With FL1 regional train, your cost will be € 16 (changing at Ostiense or Trastevere to go to Termini)

With the FL1 train, the cost would be €24, because, as GAC says, the children don't ride free on that train; they pay half price.
