Visiting Rome for the first time.

Hi, we`ll be visiting Rome for 2 and a half days in July. It will be myself, wife and 2 kids aged 2 and a half years and 7 years. Staying at a central hotel, so we are planning to visit most places of interest by walk. We will not be visiting any Museums since we don't have much time and i dont think the kids will love them as much. would appreciate if you can suggest some tips and perhaps some reviews on family friendly restaurants. many thanks!!

We just got back from 6 days in Rome with 3 kids. It was a lot of fun and as long as you do not try and do too much, I am sure you and your kids will enjoy it. Our favourite things, according to our kids (13, 10 and 10):

- the view from The Vittoriano Monument

- the Colosseum

- the park at Villa Borghese (rent bikes)

- pizza at Pizza Ceri near the Trevi fountain

- walking into St Peters Square

- ice cream, which was unfailingly great

- seeing so many nuns and priests!

We also had a wonderful day out at Ostia Antica, which is 30 mins by train from Rome. It is a well preserved ancient Roman town in a park like setting, so was great for a picnic and a run around. If you only have 2.5 days, you may not have the time to visit it?

Have the 7 year old read through a guide book with you so he/she can decide what they would like to see. There are tons of things for kids to do and see and having them help in the planning is a great way to get them interested in the trip.
