Train from Venice to Rome

Looking to book train for Sat Aug 23 from Mestre train station to Termini in Rome. We are a family of 3 adults and 1 teen travelling with 1 luggage each.

As of today Trenitalia offers only 2 options..frecciargento trains leaving at 8:37 and 8:47am and arriving in Rome at lunchtime.

Question? What are some advantages on booking this early? Which type of class (economy, base, etc), first class vs second class splurge, and do we take luggage with us to our seats or can we give it in? Any opinions/suggestions appreciated :)

Booking early gets you lower prices. You take your luggage with you- and be warned that you have to haul it *up* stairs into the train by yourselves.

There are other times available, but not every time/train has the same discount fares. Economy, base, etc. refer to the kind of fare, not the class of service. Economy and super-economy fares come with restrictions, and the disadvantage of advance booking is that tickets are not able to be changed (usually) or refunded. The advantage of advance booking is that you can get the discount fare (act soon, they sell out), which is considerably cheaper than the walk up fare of 80€/each.

I, and many travelers find 2nd class on these trains perfectly fine. Regardless of class, you still have to handle your own luggage.
