What to do??? 2 cities 6 days

Hello all,

Have book a break next year (6-12 April) doing 3 nights in Rome and then 3 nights in Venice, as a sort of break and honeymoon together.

We want to make the most of it by see the usual suspects in both, but we want to do things that aren't touristy and also not eat in the tourist traps so to speak.

So I can plan and book tickets etc what do you guys think we should do/see as never been on holiday together before.

Thank you guys :)

I think you should get a guide book and really start researching what these cities have to offer. There are hundreds of things to see and do in Rome. Most of them are touristy so if you want something a little different you'll need to get a guide book and do the research. You'll easily be able to make out a list of sites you're interested in and then you can plan a route. With only 3 days in each city you'll really need to pick what appeals to you the most and leave the other sites for another trip.

If you both make a list of the top 20 things in each city you want to see you can compare lists and visit the sites that are common on both lists. This way you wont't need to miss out on anything you deem important.

What do you consider the "main sites"? This always puzzles me when people say that because everyone is different and wants to see different things. If you are just planning on visiting the most mentioned sites then that narrows it down a bit, but you miss so many things that are worth seeing that dont get mentioned as often because people get "stuck" on the most mentioned "must sees".

Ytes the main sites, thinking the colosseum and forum in Rome and the doges palace and st marks in Venice. Really would like to do the 'off the beaten track' thing in both places.

You can book tickets or a tour of the colosseum at the official website. Read the "sticky" at the top of the main Rome forum page for information on how to book tickets or a tour. Your entry ticket to the colosseum will also get you into the forum and palatine hill.

sazzal..."the 'off the beaten track' thing" is usually found when you are going from one 'tourist site' to the next and take a wrong turn, get a little lost, and find yourself in a quiet and charming piazza watching a typical Italian scene. Good luck...
