Hadrians villa from Rome without a tour ?

I read some posts about this, but they were from 2007, so perhaps outdated.

Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to go to Villa D'Este and Hadrian's Villa, no tour, from Rome ?

Here is a recent thread about getting to Tivoli by train: tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187791-i22-k74985…

If you want to go by bus, you need to get to the Ponte Mammolo bus depot (on the metro B line) where you can get a Cotral bus to Tivoli.

On page 16 of this link you can find the bus schedule to Villa d'Este and on the bottom of page 17 is the schedule to Villa Adriana (Hadrian's Villa): cotralspa.it/PDF_Orari_Comune/…5D.pdf

We rented a car at the Rome termini and drove to both. Delightful day with no problems. We asked for directions how to get out of Rome from the car rental. On the return, we followed the Centro bullseye signs. We had no problems finding both places and parking was available. We even stopped for a delish lunch at a Pork place along the way.

Some of the buses leaving from Ponte Mammolo stop at Hadrian's Villa, and all of them stop on the highway at the turnoff for Hadrian's Villa, about a 15-minute walk from the Villa. Tell the driver that's where you want to go (Villa Adriano).

Going on your own is easy and allows you to choose how long you spend at each place. Villa Adriana is vast and we spent hours there, before heading back to Tivoli to visit Villa D'Este. We had a very sunny day so it was lovely to finish things off with a drink on the terrace at Villa D'Este before heading back to Rome. It turned out to be a very full day out,

We took the train to Tivoli, then the local bus to/from Villa Adriana, no problems at all.
