Rome/Florence Weather mid Oct.-early Nov.

Thinking of a stay in Rome and Florence mid-Oct.-early Nov. Heard weather is starting to change, not quite as warm and more chances of rain. Anyone have experience that time of year in Rome/Florence?

I have been to Rome and Florence in feb and Dec. The chance of rain varied by year. The worst % days with rain was in 2005 in Rome when it rained on half of the days in a 10 day trip; only one day did it rain all day. Warm depends on how you define that. Even in the winter, it hardly ever get down to the freezing point of water even at night.

Here's a pretty good link which will show temps, precip, etc from previous years during that time.

I'll take a chance of some rain over summer heat and crowds of tourists any day! Late October and November are great times to go, last year we were there over late October, All Saints' Day and into early November and it was marvelous during that time period (although no one can predict exactly what weather you'll get this year!)

We spent late Oct/November 2011 in Italy for our Honeymoon!!!! Spent time in Venice, rented a small cottage in Tuscany, Florence, and Rome. Having survived a brutally hot summer in Florida we were truly up for cool Fall weather rolling into even chillier temps.

It was lovely. I think it may have rained 1 1/2 days in Venice , but other than that it was just perfect;boots, scarfs, sweaters, cute gloves, light coats/jackets.........

Coming from NH, it'll be a walk in the park! Enjoy!

I've checked all the weather sites and temps look comfortable enough to enjoy being outside and of course the chance of rain increases but nothing that would deter those who love the outdoors. Prices are lower for accommodations and even flights are lower. After being in Rome, Sorrento & the island of Ischia in early Oct. things should quiet down later in the month and into Nov. Don't get me wrong, we loved our time there but the crowds were far more than what we expected for Rome, Sorrento was better but we had to get to Ischia to escape other tourists and have a more relaxed and quiet time.

We spent a week in Rome last November. As SpansihStepsApt mentions, the lack of crowds will make up for any inclement weather you might find. Bring layers. During our week we had a couple days wearing a light sweater, a day or two with a fleece and a day or two with a rain shell over the sweater and fleece. Good idea to have options.
