Only in Rome one night in transit to airport

What neighbourhood should we stay in? We are coming from Pescara by train, arriving in Rome at midday. Having one night in Rome and then out to the airport next morning. In the short time we have in Rome we would just like to wander the streets, eat some nice food, be in a vibrant neighbourhood and see a few sights, as well as be close to a train station so we can get to the airport with ease. Any suggestions?

Try Hotel Piemonte if you only around 1 night, it is a 3-5 minute to the Termini Station and the price is cheap if you book directly on the Hotel Site.

I have a little different take, just an opinion

I have stayed around Termini a few times, and many of the less expensive hotels are in that area. It is also easy to get to FCO by the Leonardo Express, but keep in mind that if you are coming back direct to the US on a US carrier you will have to check in at T5 which involves a shuttle at FCO

There are a few interesting sites in the Termini area, but not the main ones so for the more famous you will have to walk a distance (but doable) or taxi or metro, bus etc.

If you are OK with taking a taxi, it is normally quick from any place, including Termini area and will take you direct to T5 if needed

I might tend to stay in an area closer to the Col, fountains, steps Pantheon, etc for that one night. Also closer to the Vatican if you want to walk over there.

Contributors' advice can be best focused if you provide what month you'll be traveling, what time your flight leaves, your budget preference and how much luggage you will have. For just one night in Rome, the most central could be a broad circle around Piazza Navona if the budget and logistics work out.

We're travelling in September, flight leaves at 11am , so we will have to be at the airport at 9am (T3) and just one suitcase each.

Then you can choose either the Termini area to be closest to the train station, OR one of the areas like Piazza Navona or those mentioned in the last paragraph of Post #2 to be closer to particular attractions and neighborhoods, because either choice is workable. Many on this forum use the TA hotel search function, www.booking.com or www.venere.com to review available hotels for the date, budget and location you want.
