Piazza Navona--public transportation?

Many people recommend hotels in the Piazza Navona area because it is so central to so many sights. We are planning to stay there. But it is convenient to the bus and the metro? We are not young and a short walk to some may seem a lot longer to us!

So what bus lines are near the Piazza Navona? Where is the nearest metro stop? Thanks.

There is no metro stop near Piazza Navona. But quite a few bus lines stop nearby. Once you get to Rome buy a map of the bus routes from a newstand - or you can probably get one at Termini, since I believe all the bus routes begin there.

There is also a pdf map of the main bus routes on the web somewhere, but I've lost the link to it. Perhaps someone else will post it.

There is a pretty good bus map on the Rome transportation website, I hope this link gets you directly to the map page:

http://www.atac.roma.it/

The maps are on the right side of the page, it's the second map from the top of the little pictures.

There are many busses which pass near to Piazza Navona, and it's a good central area to be in--there's no one place that is perfect for all the sights.

Then how do you get to the metro--and to all the places the metro takes you to--from Piazza Navona?

Well, you can take the bus to a metro station. But Rome's bus system is very extensive (much more extensive than the metro) and will take you any place you want to go. So if you're not much for walking, you should just plan on learning how to deal with the bus system (it's not hard). If I understand it correctly, buses on most routes come by every 10-15 minutes.

Also, a cab ride from Piazza Navona to most of the things you'll want to see will be only 5 to 10 euros.

The Rome metro system is not particularly extensive and more or less skirts all the important sights which would more or less entail more or less walking.

The bus system is very extensive and there are dozens of lines, often several to each location.

YOu will find a metro map on the same link as the bus map--the title of the map is Metro e ferrovie
