Scavi confirmation- what tour group?

Hi everyone

We have received confrimation of our Scavi tour for 1.30pm on 7th March. Can anyone recommend a tour group so we can get in without having to queue? Or would entering at 10am give us long enough to look around? It is our 2nd last day in Europe after 5 weeks at a frenetic pace.

You book the Scavi Tour directly through the Vatican. Here's a lengthy link (cut-n-paste) that will take you to the website for the info you need:

I'm fairly certain Scavi tour is a small group at the appointed time and there is no long line like the Vatican Museum. If you do a search on this forum you will find out more than you need about all the particulars.

There is no tour company that operates Scavi tour except the Vatican itself.

julie, the Scavi tour is a tour in and of itself. You are only allowed to enter with a small group of people who also have reservations. You are led through the tour with a very knowladgeable guide. There is no way to go inside without a reservation and there is no other guide to hire. There are no queues as each group of people have their own allotted time slots. You go to the left side of St. Peter's a few minutes before your reserved time and show the Swiss Guard your reservation and they will allow you to enter at the appropriate time. Very easy to do. And congratulations on receiving your reservation!! It is truly a remarkable experience.
