Public transport to Monte San Martino.

We are looking for public transport from Ancona airport or a nearby town to the hilltop town of Monte San Martino.

Also any known public transport to Amandola,Sarnano from MSM.

Any suggestions at all would be welcome!

Many thanks

I strongly urge you to rent a car if you're spending time in this area. These small towns are in a mountainous area not served well by trains. Bus service is sparse and infrequent, and in general usually connects the small towns to a larger central town, not to each other.

The only way I can see to get to Monte San Martino is to take the bus from the airport to Ancona. There, you would take a train to Civitanova Marche, where you would change to a train for Macerata. In Marcerata, you could catch a bus to Monte San Martino.

You can see the train schedules here:

Use a date in the next week in order to see full information; use Ancona as your starting point and Macerata as your destination.

Here is the schedule from Macerata to Monte San Martino:

From Macerata to San Ginesio is on the right-hand side, reading from bottom to top. This is an image file, and it looks chopped off at right and left, so I don't know if it's complete. If it is, there is only one bus a day that makes the entire trip, leaving Macerata at 1:15 PM and arriving in Monte San Martino at 2:50 PM. This bus runs only Monday through Saturday.

There's one bus a day in each direction between Monte San Martino and Sarnano:

Again the image seems chopped off at the right. It says the bus is seasonal, but the season isn't mentioned. There's just "Period ". It also doesn't say which days of the week it runs, but almost no buses in this region run on Sundays.

I don't see any service to Amandola, but the bus between Sarnano and Monte San Martino passes nearby.

You can rent a car at the Ancona airport, and the trip is fairly straighforward.

Thank you so much for all that information. There is a large party of us and we were trying not to have to rent a people carrier or two!! so thought it was worth finding out about other alternatives.

Many thanks.
