from Ancona to Urbino or San Marino?

Our ship has two excursions and I'm trying to decide which to sign for. Is the drive to one more handsome than the drive to the other? How do the two cities compare?

We have no interest in shopping. We enjoy great scenery and handsome towns.

Thank you.

1. Re: from Ancona to Urbino or San Marino?

Urbino is the place to go. One of the great city states of the Renaissance. San Marino is cute and scenic, in a picture-postcard kind of way, but does not stack up well with Urbino's art and architecture.

If you go to San Marino, don't forget to list it as one of the countries visited when you fill out your customs declaration before landing back in the U.S.: San Marino is an independent country with its own executive, legislature, judiciary, and armed forces. It is also a signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.

I'd say Urbino as well. San Marino is rather theme-park-ish.
