Daytrip to Bologna from Venice or Florence?

Hi there,

Is there a lot to see in Bologna or could it be a daytrip?

If it could be a daytrip, better to make it from Venice or from Florence?

I am going to be in both places so... acording to transportation/prices where should I visit Bologna from?

thank you!!

The Trenitalia website gives prices and timings for all journeys.

I checked for a day next week and the journey from Venice to Bologna takes from one and a half to two hours and costs between 11 and 15 euros whereas Florence to Bologna takes thirty to forty minutes and costs between 13 and 24 euros. Other prices may be quoted for the day you wish to travel as the cheapest fares sell out first.

Bologna is closer to Florence. Only about a 30 minute train ride compared to 90 minutes from Venice. We have visited Bologna as a day trip from Florence and was a nice intro to the city. We were able to visit most of the main sites and explore some food shops.

1 day is not enough for Bologna, but it's already something, in any case definitely from Florence

If you want to travel cheaply you can go on Regional trains from Florence to Bologna at a cost of only €8.85 even if bought on the day of travel.

However there are only a couple of direct Regional trains a day - the rest of the time you must change in Prato and you must look up trains to and from Prato separately on the Trenitalia website. Travel by Regional train will take three times as long as travelling by Frecciarossa or Frecciargento.
