Playing For Pizza

I am reading this book and find it entertaining. It is the story of a washed up NFL quarterback who ends up playing football in Parma.

It is very well written and gives you wonderful descriptions of Parma.

Especially the wonderful food of the town.

If you are planning a trip I think this book will enhance you visit!

I listened to the interview of the author on NPR just a few days ago. It sounded good.

This is not a mystery. He writes his book somewhat like a Tim Parks stories about living with "locals" in Italy. IMHO, no one does it better than Tim Parks but this book is enjoyable. I have a friend who actually does play American football in Italy.

Their fans are the American troops who are stationed near where he plays. I know the team goes to the American base to watch The Super Bowl on television.

As the book says..the fans are few but they are loyal.

For those on TA going to Parma it is a good book to read . The visits to the restaurants make your mouth water :)

Wittyone,

If you haven't read it already,"The Broker" by Grisham was set in Florence, and its one of his best novels. Grisham does a perfect description of Italy, specially the food. :-)

Can't think of a better place than Parma to be paid in food!!!

I actually have some friends who played for the Parma team. Not NFL but calcio italian style.

Parma is a superb city and one of the few places even in Italy where it is difficult to eat badly.

Even going to the Tardini which is the football stadium is a cultural event.

Before every game we are treated to the strains of Aida.

Forza Parma in every way.
