Trip in August

My husband and I are traveling to Italy in August for my daughter's graduation from ALMA and then some travel thru Italy. Our trip starts in Colorno/Parma. We are staying at a B&B in Colorno to be near my daughter. We are big foodies and want to see parma ham, parmigiano reggiano, balsamic vinegar, olive oil and wine production. I would like to do the tours between 1-2 days; can anybody recommend a good tour company (we will not have a vehicle). Also, what will be the best way to travel to our next destination, Livorno, from Parma; I expect the train is most reasonable and convenient.

Dear Msrock911,

About trip to Livorno: yes, the train is the best resource. Check on Trenitalia webiìsite for a timetable: http://www.trenitalia.com/ . Unfortunately Livorno isn't on a main railway, so this travel is a quite long (but not expansive).

About visit: first of all remember that august is the top holiday month in Italy, so a lot of factory are closed. This mean that even ham producers, diaries, and so on could be closed.

Second: august in padanian plane is very hot and wet... more than 35 celsius degrees with more than 90% on humidity. So be prepared.

About suggestion of tours: in the Emilia-Romagna's forum there are a lot of suggestions. I live here, so I'm not able to suggest a good tour.

Bye!

Riccardo

For the Parma food tours the best one is Parmagolosa.

You can take the train from Parma to Livorno. You don't need to book in advance, just buy the ticket directly on the train station.
