Restaurant for lunch on a Monday

We will be passing through Parma on a Monday (mid July) - can anyone recommend a restaurant that (a) is a good representation of the local cuisine and (b) is open (as I understand many are closed on a Monday).

Thanks

Hi SandDragon,

you can try "Il Battibecco"

Via Lanfranco Giovanni, 4/B

43126 Parma (PR)

tel +39 0521988235

fax +39 0521988235

Excellent food and rather inexpensive. They have a nice shaded patio as well where you can eat in the summer.

Parma’s Tourist Information website is exceptional – You can find listings for restaurants and hours of operation.

…parma.it/tportalparma/…

>>> download a full list of restaurants in town

>>> download the map of the town

Il Battibecco Osteria is almost half an hour’s walk from Piazza del Duomo.

well, SandDragon didn't ask for a place in the city centre (although Parma is such a small town that it's hard to distinguish between centre and outskirts to be fair), but for a place that (and I quote) "(a) is a good representation of the local cuisine and (b) is open (as I understand many are closed on a Monday)".

Il Battibecco fullfils both these requirements, it's walking distance from Piazza del Duomo (and a quite enjoyable walk too, as you can walk through the Parco Ducale to get there) and it's reasonably priced. Also being off the beaten track is always a bonus, although Parma doesn't have as many tourist traps as other places like Venice or Florence.

It didn’t sound as if SandDragon had much time to allocate to Parma, and although Il Battibecco Osteria fulfills those requirements, so do many of Parma’s restaurants, some top rated and more convenient.
