C-T from Flr is a long day trip. I"m assuming you mean to return to Flr at the end of that day?

Perhaps pick a different day trip visit?

Are you going to:

Pisa,

Siena,

Lucca,

San Gimi

These are day trips.

ditto Fiesole

I forgot to mention, most of the day trip people pay these ridiculous prices for a sort of min-bus type of trip, then follow someone carrying a flag on a stick through a couple of the towns. (Usually in a big hurry)

I can only criticize this as we sat on our balcony in Vernazza last Oct and watched this daily parade.

It's a long day, but you can easily do it by yourself.

Do you want to stroll, take a ferry, do a real hike, just relax at a restaurant? Let us know.

You take the train from Florence to the village of your choice - we can help you - and then do one or more of the activities above. Then take the train back to Florence.

It's really pretty simple, even the trains. Typically there will be a direct, early AM train to La Spezia, otherwise a connection in Pisa or Viareggio. From there, just fine a local train and get off in Riomaggiore. Explore as you wish then proceed. You could very easily walk all of the trails as far as Corniglia and not have to worry about time.

The trails between Corniglia and Vernazza and Vernazza and Monterosso offer the best vistas (many will recommend the reverse direction for Monteross _to_ Vernazza, fyi), but these walks are upwards of 45 minutes to over an hour and can be taxing depending on your condition and the weather. I'd advise you play it by ear, either taking the train or ferry in lieu of the hikes if you don't have time/energy

The ferry will run between Vernazza and Monterosso and Manarola and Riomaggiore, the latter being a quite short jaunt.

Any train going through the CT will eventually stop in La Spezia, but you may find a more direct option from Monterosso or Riomaggiore to get you heading back to Florence.

Use the Trenitalia site,

Plug in Florence SMN as departure, and Riomaggiore as arrival.

Your return could be from any of the 5 towns you desire.

Use a date within the next week. Schedules are not up for far in the future, but the trains and times seem to remain about the same. (pick the day of the week you think you'll travel)

You may or may not be routed through Spezia.

If you know which train you are taking, you can purchase the ticket(s) at SMN the day of your departure.........most of these are regional trains, and they don't sell out. We found seats easily on the regional trains we rode.

Ferry schedules are found here:

Have a great journey.
