Rio maggiore -Manarola: love path

We are going to Cinque terre in 2 weeks and we are planning to do the boat trip but we want to walk from Riomaggiore to Manarola. As we have a young child with us is it too difficult to walk this path? Is it easier from RMaggiore to Manarola or it is the same both ways(the more easier the better for us).Do we have to make a reservation for boat daily trip?

Thank you

No the Via Amore is an easy 20 minute stroll either way.

There are no reservations for the ferries and tickets are sold on a first come first served basis, just look for the queue.

Literally, it's a flat, paved, wide path. You could crawl it.

cm28 is spot on. That section is easy. You don't even need hiking shoes.

Sometimes the boats are cancelled in bad weather. I would book on the day so you are not locked in on a rainy day. If you catch the train one way or the other stand well back from the edge of the platform. The express trains don't slow for the station and really, really race through.

There were people with babies in back packs doing the entire walk (all the sections). It is a good walk but not really a hike. I was scared reading the reviews before we went but it was fine, especially since we paused to take in the view so often.

The Italians love babies so be prepared for lots of ooohing and aaahhing : )
