Which town to stay in Cinque Terre ?

me and my brother (both in our early 40's) are planning on spending a couple of days in Cinque Terre in mid-September.. We would be interested to know where to stay and go... Looking for cafe's with views.. shopping and local culture and nightlife... any insight would be helpful... Thank you....

Your best bet would be Monterosso if you want to stay literally IN one of the 5 villages. In terms of nightlife and shopping, as well as a beach scene, it's your best option. However, if you want to stay outside the 5Terre in nearby Levanto or even Sestri Levante, you can find much bigger towns with even more of these things. It depends on what you are looking for, but sounds to me like it's Monterosso.

We were there in April. We stayed in Riomaggiore....It's the smallest. Wonderful views but no nightlife at all (and the locals weren''t too friendly). I wished we'd stayed in Manarola. (sp?) I agree with CM....sounds like Monterosso is best for you. It wasn't the prettiest, but it seemed to be livlier. Plus, there's a cheap train that runs all day to the other 4 towns....I don't remember the name, but there is a small outdoor cafe/bar as you're descending from the Walk of Love into Riomaggiore. It's on the side of a cliff...it was closed while we were there, but it had the best views in the area.
