Trails Ok to walk after rock fall?

Hi, Just wondering if all the trails are open after the recent rock fall that hit a few Aussies.

No. The main trail (=Blue Trail - Via dell'Amore) is closed. All others are apparently open. Italian TV this morning is reporting that various park officials, including top management, are being investigated for negligence.

Actually, all coastal trails in Cinque Terre are temporarily closed.

You can monitor the situation on parconazionale5terre.it/sentieri_parco.asp…

(although they say they won't reopen for some time - which might mean one month)

Anyway, don't be put off by that, as there's plenty of beautiful trails around Cinque Terre. For instance, you can try walking from Riomaggiore to Portovenere or from Levanto to Monterosso! If you need some ideas, you're welcome to visit http://liguriah.wordpress.com (a website from a Liguria-based hiking group)

Thats a bummer, was really looking forward to it. Ill have to check it out closer to my departure date.

Can anyone recomoned some trails to walk instead? both fairly fit mid 20's, would be nice to stay near the coast, have some lunch half way in a town.

i second Levanto to Monterosso - it's also easy to find - as well as Monterosso to Soviore, the sanctuary over town. With the blue trail closed, many people are getting needlessly put out - as the other posters mentioned, the blue trail is the most publicized but only a fraction of the hiking in the region.

kevin c,

my husband and i were hoping to go to the cinque terre tomorrow for some walking and good views. about the trail from manarola to corniglia via volastra, how rugged of a trail is it and how long of a walk is it round trip? we are looking for a good walk, good views, but nothing strenuous.

for the train that goes from town to town in the cinque terre, can you take the train from town to town still or is it best to stay in one town. if so which town is the best for scenery.

where online can i find a good cinque terre hiking map? thanks in advance!
