Which Village to stay in

Hi

We will be visiting CT in late Sept this year for 2 nights and are wondering which village would be the best to stay in?

I like the idea of the beach in Monterosso but also would like to do a bit of hiking but also check out each of the villages either by train or boat.

Can anyone help?

The villages are very close together, and all are easily reached by train, with just a couple of minutes ride from one to the next. Monterosso has the only real beach, so if that's important, then that's where you stay. It's also a little bigger than all the others, so you get a greater choice of accommodation. Downside is that the best beach a shortish walk from the old town, which is the most interesting part of Monterosso. The newer part of town doesn't have all that much going for it, except the train station and beach.

Vernazza is beautiful, and has the best harbour, with heaps of places to sit and have a drink or meal while admiring the view. It was our choice as a base, and we never regretted that choice. Riomaggiore and Maranola were easy to reach and explore by train, and also seemed to have a lot going for them.

Corniglia, quite frankly, was hard work. The town is pleasant enough, but getting there is an ordeal, particularly with luggage. It's a long climb from the train station,. and being on top of a hill, there's no access by ferry. Once I was there, it was great: it's just the getting there.

Plenty of hiking from all towns, but the coastal trails are still closed, so any hiking is now on the more difficult inland trails.

We loved Vernazza is beautiful..especially if you are willing to hike up many stairs....we had a beautiful view over the harbor. The sunset from the top of the village was gorgeous.

If the beach is what attracts you, Monterosso is your best choice. Though the blue trail is closed at the moment, from Monterosso you can also access the hike Monterosso-Sanctuary of St. Anthony-Levanto, or the trail to the Sanctuary of Soviore, or the trail to the Colle after the hike up to the sanctuary of St. Anthony...there is hiking available in every village, regardless of the blue trail closure.

Thanks everyone, by what most of you said, Vernazza is the place to stay. I will check it out .

Can anyone recommend accommodation there?
