3 nights in Cinque Terre

If coming in from Milan by a train on a Fri in mid/late Oct where should we look to base ourselves for long weekend time in CT? Should we try and see all 5 villages or concentrate on fewer and which ones? 4 people active walkers, talkers and wine sippers!

Things won't start their seasonal closings until after the Nov 1st holiday. The ferries will run until Nov 3rd this year and there is usually a crowd of people still visiting at that time if the weather is good. You won't have to worry about a lack of places to eat.

Choose the train and book it now, so you'll probably get tickets at 9 euros!

All the towns are wonderful and interesting in themselves. Just pick one that appeals and has the most suitable accommodation for the 4 of you. They're all only minutes away from each other by train, so you can easily explore them all and eat in different towns regardless of where you pick. Even Corniglia, high up on a hill and a steep climb from the station, has a bus that will take you from the train to the town center (Wish I knew that last Sep!) And if the weather is good enough, also do the ferry trip through the towns and down to Portovenere. Book Milan to Sestri Levant, Monterosso, or La Spezia as early as you can, as Andvid suggests. From any of these three towns connected by (reasonably) fast train from Milan it's just a local train service and a very short trip to your chosen village. These tickets can be bought on the day: just remember to validate them before you board.

Enjoy one of the nicest areas Italy has to offer.

Excellent advice much appreciated. Thinking as coming in from brief Canada stopover early into Milan will only get as far as Monterosso first day as expecting to be horribly jetlagged by then and would like to dump luggage as quick as possible. Any advice re accomodation?

Thank you to all for replies.
