Cinque Terra, Como, Zermatt with baby and toddler

Hi,

I'd like to thank everyone in advance. I had posted on the Milan forum and did not get any final responses therefore I am posting here.

Hi, since we are coming from so far, we dont want to miss cinque terra. Here is itinerary, please comment how this could be easier. Also, we are traveling with 10 month baby and 3.5 year old toddler..

Day 1- arrive genoa and go directly to cinque terra - stay 3 nights (is this closest airport?)

Day 4- train to Milan and see Milan

Day 5- day trip to lake como and more Milan in evening

Day 6 - train to zermatt. -3nights

Day 9 leave back from zurich or geneva- we may arrive prior night

Ques: what villages should we do in cinque terra

Will zermatt have enough activities and light hiking for us - ESP if we avoid going to top due to high elevation?

Is there a direct train from lake como to zermatt

Last ques: is zermatt a must do in Switzerland ? Or would another area be closer with same qualities as the jungfrau wengen area that we saw 2 years back

Thx!

Genoa and Pisa are the closest airports. From Genoa, the train is direct so you won't have to change trains with kids and luggage or are you renting a car? 3 nights in the Cinque Terre will give you time to see all 5 villages. If you have a car, Monterosso will be your best bet for parking. Travel between villages is best done by train or ferry (in season). With little kids you may not want to hike the steep paths between the villages.

Have you looked at the driving/train times for your day trips and connections? The direct train from Monterosso to Milan takes 3 hours. Then you will lose another hour or so checking into your hotel which only gives you half a day in Milan and you may lose some more time if your kids require naps after checking in. When you say a day trip to Lake Como, where on the lake are you traveling, the town of Como itself or Varenna which is easy to get to from Milan and has good mid-lake ferry connections to Bellagio and Menaggio?

There is no direct train from Como towards Zermatt.

For trains from Milano Centrale to Zermatt, see http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html
