How to split time between 5 Terre and Rapallo?

My adventurous, outdoor loving family of 4 has to make a tough choice.

Do we:

Stay 2 nights in Cinque Terre and 3 nights in Rapallo

OR

Stay 3 nights in Cinque Terre and 2 nights in Rapallo?

We want lots to do. Will definitely rent a boat for a day/hike etc.

Any suggestions?

thank you!

I vote 2 CT and 3 Rapallo. There's lots to do from Rapallo. Santa Margherita, Portfino, hike to San Fruttuoso, Camoglie, the tram to Monte Allegro.

I vote the same. There are tons of great and less touristy hikes in that part of the riviera. Plus, I love rapallo. Love.

Thank you! I was discouraged with our leaning towards staying longer in Rapallo because a member on Rick Steeve's board recommended we not stay in Rapallo at all...

That would depend on what you plan to do during your time in Rapallo hkenalty.

Rapallo is a good-value Riviera base.

If you'd like a more genuine and less touristy experience, Rapallo is a working town with a real town feel, an historic centre, accommodations and restaurants in various price ranges, a seaside promenade, a cable car to Santuario Basilica di Montallegro, a castle, train and ferry services, and proximity to walks and great treks on the Portofino Promontory, however Rapallo isn't blessed with the best beach.

When considering the number of days at either destination, also consider how late you would arrive at either destination, and how much time you would require for your planned activities.

Thank you Vagabonda!!!

We are indeed more interested in an authentic italian experience.

our other consideration is 5 days in Sardinia. Your country is too beautiful to decide where to go!!

Prego hkenalty,

If you're indeed more interested in an authentic Italian experience, then Rapallo would suit.

Consider the logistics for Sardinia, as well as time, transport, and expense, and whether Sardinia would fit your itinerary.

Best regards,

Your family would probably most enjoy Monterosso since it's the largest town and most lively, and also with the only real beach!

thanks again Vagabonda! You are right about the amount of time to travel to Sardinia so we will have to add it to return trip to Italy.

We are fortunate enough to have found a room at the Best Wester Tigullio in Rapallo and Casa di Andrea in Monterosso! We can't go wrong with either :)
