Visited Manarola June 2014 - I highly recommend the Ferry; it worked great! The scenery was fantastic, the staff was very efficient, the amount of time between stops worked well for us to explore each town, being on the water was so nice & as a mode of transport, it worked beautifully for us. We were interested in the taking the Ferry, instead of the train, to visit the other towns. We learned from the person at the ticket booth that the following day, it was likely the Ferry would not run b/c of rough waters & that was the case. Therefore, even though it was late morning, we bought tickets & made a shorter tour of each town than originally anticipated. The water was rough, but we are not affected by sea sickness. Note that getting on and off the Ferry entails walking/climbing a ramp that moves along with the boat, so observe this if you have mobility or balance considerations. It was the best way possible for us to see all the towns except Corniglia, which we saw by hiking from Manarola & taking the train back.
