Motorcycle parking

We are travelling to Monterosso by motorbike and will be reserving a space to park at the hotel. Are the other 4 villages that make up Cinque Terre accessible by motorbike please?

Yes and no. They are accessible from a high road but you cannot go down into the villages with motor vehicles. The road is very windy and can be a little rough in parts as it was damaged in the recent winter rains that were quite heavy. If you are coming specifically to have a motorcycle vacation, then these windy, cliffside roads might be what you are specifically searching for - if not, keep in mind that in a short stay, the train connects the villages within a few minutes where as the road (that needs to go up and down several small mountains) can take hours.

Thank you for your quick reply. The hotel we are hoping to book is in the centre of Monterosso so hopefully we will be able to ride to that? We are not keen to leave the bike unattended outside of the Cinque Terre. Having read your advice I think we will use the train to travel between the villages. We plan to stay for 3 nights and will happily give up the bike for those 3 days as we are travelling from the UK via the South of France. Some time off the bike to explore the villages rather than riding windy and rough roads sounds far nicer. Thanks again for your reply.

Absolutely!

Depends on where you are staying - more then likely, if your hotel is in the Old Town center, you will park on the hill just outside the main part of the village - from the center, it's a short walk (10 minutes, depending on where you are staying exactly in Monterosso)...and don't forget the ferry! The train is certainly the fastest, but if it's nice you should definitely spend one day seeing the villages from the sea. The ferry connects all of them except for Corniglia (no harbor) and though it costs more (depending on the season, can go as high as 25 or so euro for a day pass in August a head) and takes longer (Monterosso-Riomaggiore 45 mins on the boat, 15 in the train), it's definitely the best way to see the villages and appreciate how small and unique they are.

Thank you. We will be happy to take longer and see the villages by ferry. Thinking we might stay in La Spezia now and use train and ferry to explore for 3 days. I am now checking hotels and B and Bs in both La Spezia and Monterosso. Just hope we haven't left it too late. We plan to travel end of June. It looks amazing and looking forward to it already.

You can also check hotels and B&B in Levanto a nice town on the sea with easy access to Cinque Terre by train.

Check it on your map, I prefer it over La Spezia.

Levanto is a considerably nicer destination than La Spezia. A number of hotels in Levanto offer parking, but check carefully: at least one of them has its parking lot at the edge of town. Villa Margherita has onsite parking that includes a large lockable garage that will take several cars and your motorbike. See www.villamargherita.net
