Train from Nice to Riomaggiore

Hi

I am struggling to figure out the train tickets in order to travel from Nice to Riomaggiore in April of this year.

Can I book train tickets from Nice to Genoa online in advance? What exactly are the train strations called?

Can I also buy tickets from Genoa to Riomaggiore in advance?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

You take a local French train from Nice to Ventimiglia, then Italian trains.

There is absolutely no point trying to book the French train in advance over the Internet. These trains have no seat reservations (so tickets cannot sell out) and no discounts. They run every 30 minutes.

Tickets from Ventimiglia to Riomaggiore in April are on sale now. Book as soon as possible for the best price. See www.lefrecce.it

There is no need to look them up, they run every 30 minutes. But you can find them on www.tgv-europe.com/en looking for trains from Nice to Vintimille. Don't let yourself be redirected to RailEurope.

The trains sometimes run a few minutes late, so don't plan a tight connection at Ventimiglia.

Perfect thanks so much!

Just one last question - do you know much about luggage restrictions on these trains?

Thanks again

You carry your own luggage on board, and you can take as much as you can carry. However, it is essential that you do not have more luggage than you can *comfortably* handle by yourselves. There is nobody to help you at the stations, there may be stairs to the platforms, and there are always a few steep steps up into the train.

The French trains....www.sncf.com The Italian trains.....www.trenitalia.com

Nice to Ventimiglia (French part) Ventimiglia to Riomaggiore (Italian part)

The Italian trains will pass through Genova and the down to La Spezia. This train do stop in Riomaggiore, so you don't have to change trains.

It is true that you do not have to change trains between Ventimiglia and Riomaggiore if you select one of the four direct Regional trains per day.

Those choosing this option should be aware that the direct trains make between up to 53 stops at stations along the way, and you will be in the train for five to 5.5 hours without refreshment facilities.

The options using an InterCity train (with fewer stops) to Genoa can be more comfortable, and often save a little time despite the change of train - which makes a welcome break for many people.

I am also going from Nice to Riomaggiore so was wondering if you know if all the trains from Ventimiglia to La Spezia stop in Riomaggiore?

Also, you say don't book the French train over the internet? We need to get from Avignon to Nice the same day. Would you recommend reserving that part of the journey?

Lastly! We have Eurail passes...can we use those for this trip Avignon-Nice-Ventimiglia-Riomaggiore?
